"I am Jean's oldest son and Cookie's older brother. People often say that Jean and I are the same person. We are only 15 years apart, but we navigated life together. I remember her gentleness and beauty. I always felt protective, and she used to call me her bodyguard. There is nothing that I would not do to help make her life a little bit easier, as she worked to provide for Cookie, Renee, and me. People also joke that she would live with me if she were alive. I believe so, too. I most remember her kindness to others and her constant thoughtfulness. This is the most important lesson and trait that she left me. I will always carry that mantra and be proud that I was her protector.
Cookie and I are so close in age that we were the same age for two whole weeks. We were raised like twins, so close in age. Frick and Frack, lol. Cookie and I shared so much together throughout our lives. When you saw one of us, you saw the other. Wow, there are lots of stories of our journey together.
Cookie was more than a brother. He was a confidant, prayer partner, teacher, and, most of all, my best friend. I can't count how many times he steered me in life's choices and was always my cheerleader. His big laugh would make me laugh, too.
I will never forget all that we shared as brothers. There is no bond stronger. I am forever grateful that God allowed me to be his big brother and for him to be my best friend".
